Guangzhou, Conghua volunteer activity
Behind the glittering facade in Guangzhou, there are families still living in poverty.
The volunteers from Beijing New World Insurance-Guangzhou branch have visited
the impoverished families in Taiping Town,Conghua for a few times. We realized that
those families are in need desperately. Some of them are widows and orphans. A few
of them are mentally disabled. Worse still, there are villagers with serious illnesses
who cannot afford surgeries. All these miseries lay heavy burden on the poor families.
Children don't even get the basic stationary at all. Their living standards are far from
satisfactory in spite of our efforts.
 |
On 21st November, 2009, We visited Taiping Town again with the volunteers and their
family members from Hong Kong office. There is an unfortunate family, a
primary-two-child whose parents are both mentally disabled and unemployed. The
innocent boy can't even afford only RMB2.5 per day for school meal fee. With a view
to improving their living environment, volunteers not only donated money to
redecorate their house, but also subsidized the lunch fee in school for the boy. Besides,
there were two other underprivileged families. We sent them daily necessities,
storybooks and stationeries. It was approaching Christmas, we told the children some
Christmas stories and played games with them. Children' smiles and the comfort from
the elderly are the best rewards of our visit.
 |
This meaningful volunteer activity was supported with enthusiastic donation and
participation from Hong Kong office. Apart from the generous donation, they even
encouraged their families to join this trip. Love is about giving and returning. With
love, we have a better world. With efforts from you and us, we help them to build a
brighter future.

During the visit, the elderly shared their life experience with us, also, we took photos together as a memory. Moreover, we conducted a survey in order to realize their daily needs. We hope that this visit can help the elderly indeed so as to promoting the spirit of our volunteer service.

Dragon Boat Festival Caring
On 23rd May 2009, New World Insurance Volunteer Team organized a "Neighborhood Volunteer Day" before the date of the Dragon Boat Festival. We gave rice dumplings and fruits to the independent-living elderly in Model Housing Estate for the celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Though this volunteer activity was held during the swine flu season, our volunteers participated in the visit with great enthusiasm. With the help of the elderly volunteers from Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre of the Hong Kong YWCA, our visiting activity progressed smoothly.
Remembering the day of visit, the rain was pouring down. Our volunteers were holding umbrellas as well as the gifts. Regardless of the embarrassing situation, we sent our hand-made paper fans and gifts to the elderly with love.
Lastly, through this visit, we understood the needs of the elderly and reflected to Hong Kong YWCA so as to improving their living standards as soon as possible.
